Perth Mint November 2020 Release: AUSTRALIAN LUNAR SERIES III: 2021 Year of the OX

The Perth Mint has released another immaculate set of coins to commemorate the upcoming year of the Ox next year. The auspicious year brings with it an ancient myth of how the Ox become the second zodiac animal. As the myth goes the Jade Emperor decreed that the order of the animals that represent the years will be decided in the order they arrived to the jade Emperor’s party. The Ox was supposed to be the first to arrive, however the cunning Rat tricked the Ox to give him a ride. The moment they arrived the Rat jumped down ahead of the Ox leaving the Ox to become the second animal in the calendar. Nevertheless, the kind good hearted ox receives his recognition from the Perth mint in 2021 with their latest coin issue that presents the ox crafted and gilded.  


The 99.99% limited mintage pure gold coin features the Ox in a spectacular high relief design that depicts a mighty ox flanked by bamboos shoots in a prideful stance. Whilst the reverse of the coin presents the ox in grandeur along with the Chinese character for ‘ox’ the inscription ‘OX 2021’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the obverse of the coin offers Jody Clark’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
